Restaurant Spotlight 🍽

Summerville’s got plenty of great places to eat, but few hit quite like Gumbo House Express. It’s a small, easy-to-miss spot on Tupperway Drive, but once you’ve been there, you don’t forget it. The smell alone—smoky, spicy, and buttery all at once—tells you you’re in the right place.

The gumbo is the standout—thick, flavorful, and full of seafood. It’s hearty and comforting, the kind of dish that makes you stop and appreciate a simple, well-cooked meal. The rest of the menu holds its own too. Fried shrimp, catfish, seafood rice bowls, and po’boys all come out hot and well-seasoned. Portions are big, prices are fair, and the consistency keeps people coming back.

The atmosphere is casual, just what you’d expect from a small local spot. Orders move quickly, the staff are friendly, and there’s an easy rhythm to the place. You can grab takeout for a weeknight dinner or sit down for something quick—it works either way.

If you want a taste of Louisiana without leaving Summerville, Gumbo House Express delivers it!

Featured Pup of the Week: Michigan 🐶

Meet Michigan, the 2-year-old hound mix who has been with Dorchester Paws for over a year!

From Dorchester Paws:

“What does 14 months mean to Michigan? In the 14 months he’s been in our care, he’s found what kindness feels like from the staff and volunteers who’ve cheered him on, and the fosters who’ve welcomed him into their homes and given him a place to grow. He’s played with doggy friends at the shelter, explored the community, and learned from foster siblings what it means to curl up in a home at night instead of a kennel.

Michi is about 2 years old now. He’s dog-friendly (in fact, his new home must have a dog to make him feel comfortable), house and crate trained, and eager to keep learning. At first, he can be timid but when another dog is nearby, his confidence shines, and you see the goofy, loving boy he is. We so hope this is the month he finds his forever home. 🏡💛
