Restaurant Spotlight

Tucked just off the main streets of downtown Summerville, Kersey House offers something a little different from the usual Lowcountry dining scene. Housed in a beautifully restored historic home on West Luke Avenue, the restaurant blends the charm of an old Southern residence with the refined feel of a European bistro.

The concept comes from French Master Chef Nico Romo, whose restaurants around the Charleston area are known for bringing classic French cooking to the Lowcountry. At Kersey House, that influence shows up throughout the menu, where traditional bistro dishes meet fresh, seasonal ingredients.

Start with a few small plates and you’ll get a good sense of the menu. The baked escargot comes in garlic butter, while the beef tartare and fried calamari are solid starters as well. From there, the menu moves into familiar French dishes like moules frites, lobster risotto, and short rib bourguignon served with potato gratin. If you’re looking for something simpler, the steak frites or salmon almondine are straightforward options that round out the menu nicely.

What makes Kersey House stand out locally is the setting. Rather than a typical restaurant dining room, guests move through the rooms of a historic home, creating a more intimate experience that feels closer to a dinner party than a crowded restaurant. The property dates back to the early 1900s and sits just steps from the old railroad station, tying the restaurant into the history of Summerville itself.

The space also doubles as an event venue, with indoor parlors, a courtyard, and garden areas capable of hosting everything from small dinners to large gatherings. It’s become a popular spot for weddings, private parties, and special events, all backed by the same kitchen that handles the restaurant’s daily service.

If you haven’t visited yet, it may be time to make a reservation—and see what happens when French technique meets Southern hospitality.

Featured Pup of the Week: Chad 🐶

Meet Chad, the one-year-old pup who is currently being fostered through Dorchester Paws!

From Chad’s Foster:

“This is Chad, and he is one year old , basically still a big baby full of puppy joy. He loves being around people and is always excited to make new friends. Chad has a playful and happy personality, and he really enjoys spending time with other dogs.

One of the cutest things about him is that he likes to carry his little toys along on walks, proudly bringing them everywhere he goes. He enjoys being active and playing, but after a good day of exercise, his favorite thing in the world is to be close to his person.

Chad truly loves to snuggle and be right next to you. Once he is tired, he will happily curl up on the couch or in bed and just enjoy cuddling and staying close. He already knows how to sit, give paw, and lay down, it’s not perfect but he is still learning new tricks quickly he is very smart .

He is crate trained . Because he is still young, he would do best with an active family or someone committed to daily walks and playtime. A home with a yard or another dog friend would be wonderful for him, and he would thrive in a home where he gets lots of companionship and love.

Chad is a sweet, affectionate, and fun boy who is ready to find his forever family 🤍🐶"
