Restaurant Spotlight
Palmetto Flats is one of those places that manages to feel both familiar and a little unexpected. It’s a casual restaurant and bar with a Southern-meets-Italian menu, a comfortable atmosphere, and a loyal local following.
The menu has something for just about everyone. You’ll find flatbreads with creative toppings (think cheeseburger or prosciutto-pecan), hearty sandwiches, and full entrées like blackened chicken alfredo, meatloaf, and even perogies. On weekends, brunch starts at 10 AM and features classics like shrimp and grits, along with a few surprises.
Palmetto Flats isn’t trying to be trendy—it’s more about comfort, flavor, and a place to catch up with friends or bring the family. The bar is well-stocked, and there’s often something going on, whether it’s trivia night, live music, or a relaxed evening on the patio.
Service is friendly, though at peak times things can get a little slow. Still, the staff is attentive and willing to make things right. Overall, the vibe is warm and easygoing—exactly what you’d hope for in a neighborhood spot.
If you haven’t been yet, or it’s been a while, Palmetto Flats is worth a visit. It’s not fancy, but it’s dependable, welcoming, and proud to be part of the Summerville community.
Featured Pup of the Week: Nora 🐶
Meet Nora, the 1-year-old lab mix who is currently being fostered through Berkeley Animal Center!
From Nora’s foster:
“I am genuinely speechless when it comes to how amazing of a dog Nora is. If I wasn't in the military and moving ever so often, I would take her in a heartbeat.
❤️ She's extremely calm and gentle.
❤️ Amazing leash walker
❤️ She is potty trained
❤️ 1-year-old medium sized dog who is the perfect size and very adorable
❤️ Very obedient
She has had a few accidents in my car, likely due to nerves or being scared. I recommend a waterproof cover until she gets more comfortable.
She does not like her kennel, but once she is in, she sleeps like a baby. However, I know she will be just fine out of her kennel.”
If you are interested in Nora, or would like to learn more about the dozens of other dogs & cats like her, please visit https://casberkeley.org/ or head on into the shelter Tuesday through Saturday between 1-5PM.
