Restaurant Spotlight: The Azalea Bar & Garden 🍸

In the heart of historic Summerville, there’s a little place that’s quietly becoming a go-to spot for date nights, late catch-ups, and winding down with a glass of something good. If you haven’t been to The Azalea Bar & Garden yet, it’s time to put it on your list.

The vibe is something between a speakeasy and a tucked-away garden party—elegant without trying too hard. Inside, the lighting is low, the music is mellow, and the spaces are divided into cozy nooks that make you want to settle in for the night. Step outside and you’ll find a leafy patio that feels like your stylish friend’s backyard (you know the one who always lights the candles before sunset).

Drinks are where The Azalea really shines. They’re mixing up some seriously thoughtful cocktails—many with house-made ingredients like their own limoncello. You’ll find creative takes on the classics, along with seasonal specials and a solid lineup of mocktails and local brews.

The food leans toward elevated bar bites—think jalapeño cornbread that’s almost too good to share, and small plates with Southern twists. It’s not a full dinner menu, but it’s perfect for grazing between sips.

What really makes this place feel special, though, is the people. The staff knows their stuff but keeps things warm and welcoming. You get the sense they truly care about creating a space people want to return to.

A few pro tips: It’s open Tuesday through Saturday from 4 to 10 p.m., closed Sunday and Monday. Prices are a bit higher than your average neighborhood bar, but the quality and experience make it feel worth it. Bonus for pet parents: the garden patio is dog-friendly, so your pup can come, too.

Whether you’re celebrating something special or just want a quieter spot to relax with friends, The Azalea brings something fresh to downtown Summerville. It’s intimate, it’s charming, and it might just become your new favorite hangout.

Featured Pup of the Week: Dove 🐶

Meet Dove, the 4-year-old mixed breed who is currently being fostered through Dorchester Paws!

From Dove’s Foster Family:

“Dove is small in size, but her personality is anything but! She loves hanging with her dogBFF and would love a home with another playful dog who can keep up with her zoomies and be her snuggle buddy when it’s time to wind down. She’s even been living with a cat and doing well!

She is crate trained and food motivated, Dove is picking up new skills quickly—she’ll wait for the “okay” before diving into her food, which is a big deal for a girl with this much enthusiasm. She’s still working on leash manners and potty training, and while she occasionally has accidents, she’s improving every day with structure and consistency.

Her favorite things? Chew toys, snacks, and cozy cuddles. She’ll happily keep herself busy with a toy but is always ready for a good play session or snuggle on the couch."

Please visit dorchesterpaws.org to learn more about Dove and the other dogs and cats like her! 💙
