Restaurant Spotlight

There’s a new place in Nexton where the lights are low, the bourbon list is long, and part of the bar is intentionally difficult to find.
Neat & Noble Bourbon Bar opened this summer at 1101 Metropolitan Avenue on the ground floor of The Lofts Downtown Nexton. The locally owned spot comes from longtime friends Brian Adams and Wilson Rains, who set out to create the kind of grown-up neighborhood bar where you can settle in for a drink without shouting over televisions or a cover band.
The space feels like a cross between a modern whiskey lounge and an old European tavern. Think dark wood, soft lighting, leather furniture, a fireplace and a long bar lined with enough bottles to make choosing your first drink a genuine project.
Neat & Noble currently carries more than 170 bourbons, ranging from familiar Kentucky staples to harder-to-find bottles. You can order a one- or two-ounce pour, or try a flight if your bourbon knowledge begins and ends with “brown liquor.” They also serve handcrafted cocktails, wine, beer and other spirits, so the non-bourbon drinker in your group will not be forced to nurse a glass of water all evening.

The food is more substantial than the usual bowl of bar pretzels. The menu centers on shareable plates, burgers, sliders and a handful of entrées. Early standouts include thick-cut candied bacon served with bourbon glaze, beef-and-pork meatballs, steak sliders and the Noble Smash, a double-patty smashburger with shaved onions, American cheese and house-made pickles. Entrées include bourbon-butter steak, blackened salmon, grilled chicken and a Lowcountry shrimp plate.

Neat & Noble is polished without feeling overly formal. You could stop in wearing jeans for an after-work drink, bring friends for small plates, or use the speakeasy to make an ordinary date night feel slightly more mysterious.
Featured Pup of the Week: Handsome 🐶
Meet Handsome, the 3-year-old pitbull mix who has been at Dorchester Paws for almost 3 months now!

From Dorchester Paws:
“Don’t let the words “heartworm positive” keep you from meeting your perfect best friend.❤️🐾
Meet Handsome, a 3 year old sweetheart whose name fits him perfectly!
This lovable boy enjoys the simple things in life: soaking up the sunshine, going for leisurely walks (he has wonderful leash manners!), and ending the day cuddled up right next to his favorite people.
You may notice a few patches of missing hair on his back. That’s simply from his heartworm treatments— not because he’s sick or contagious.
Heartworm disease is NOT spread from dog to dog or dog to people. It can only be transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito.
The best part? Handsome’s heartworm treatment is completely covered and administered by Dorchester Paws. His future family won’t have to worry about the cost. During treatment, he’ll just need to take it easy for a little while.
Too often incredible dogs wait longer for homes simply because people hear the words “heartworm positive” and become nervous. But with proper treatment, dogs like Handsome go on to live happy and healthy lives!
Come meet Handsome today! He can’t wait to share a lifetime of unconditional love with someone💛💙”
