Restaurant Spotlight 🍽

Charleston Bakery & Deli on Dorchester Road brings the tradition of a classic Jewish delicatessen to the Lowcountry. The focus here is on fresh bagels, hearty sandwiches, and a comfortable setting that works just as well for a quick breakfast as it does for a sit-down lunch.
Breakfast offers plenty of choices, starting with bagels in flavors like everything, multigrain, asiago, and blueberry. You can pair them with spreads ranging from plain cream cheese to honey walnut or lox. Beyond bagels, there are breakfast sandwiches like croissantwiches and “Mishmuffins,” as well as pancakes with toppings that go well beyond the basics—one standout is the Cadillac Ranch with bananas, walnuts, maple, and brown sugar.

Lunch leans into classic deli staples. Matzo ball soup, quiche, and knishes sit alongside tomato pie and chili. The sandwich menu is broad—Reubens, brisket, Monte Cristo, and falafel wraps are just a few examples. For lighter options, there are fresh salads, but you’ll also find Lowcountry-style twists like a BLT with a regional touch.

Whether you’re grabbing a bagel on your way to work or sitting down for a sandwich with a friend, Charleston Bakery & Deli delivers plenty of variety with a homemade feel.
Featured Pup of the Week: Mama 🐶
Meet Mama, the 6-year-old hound dog who is currently being fostered through Dorchester Paws!
From Mama’s Foster:
“If you’re looking for a calm companion with a heart full of quiet sweetness, Mama might just be your perfect match. Mama is a true lady in the house — mellow, well-mannered, and housebroken. She adores her daily walks and takes them at a sniff-and-stroll pace, savoring every interesting scent along the way (hound instincts in action!).
She currently lives with seven other dogs and gets along wonderfully with all of them, though she’s more of a polite bystander than a rough-and-tumble playmate. When the other dogs get rowdy, Mama prefers to watch from the sidelines. She’d be perfectly content as an only dog or sharing a home with one or two gentle canine friends.
Loud noises like thunderstorms and fireworks send her to her favorite safe place — the carpeted closet — where she tucks herself in for a nap until the world quiets down again. At mealtimes, her excitement is unmatched, and she always finishes her food. She does best with a slow feeder to help her eat at a safer pace. Mama hasn’t lived with cats or kids in her foster home, but her gentle nature suggests she’d likely do well with respectful children.
She’s not looking for chaos — a calmer, quieter home where she can be loved and appreciated is all she needs to live her best life.”
