• NetSmartz: Internet Safety Workshop for Families 💻 | Seacoast Church: this comprehensive internet safety program was developed by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in partnership with the Kay Phillips Children’s Advocacy Center. NetSmartz is a nationally recognized program designed to help children and families understand online risks and learn how to make safer choices in the digital world. • Cover the Cruiser 🚔 | Dunkin’ Donuts (1605 Central Ave): the Summerville Police Department is back with another Cover the Cruiser, this time at the Dunkin’ at 1605 Central Ave! They’ll be out there starting at 7AM and staying until the cruiser is covered, so come by, grab your Dunkin’, and purchase an icon for a great cause. Every donation helps support Special Olympics!

• Walk N Talk 🚶 | Mochinut: join Summerville2CHS walkers on a 2-mile walk starting at Mochinut in Carnes Crossroads at 9:30AM!

• Live Music: David Grunstra 🎸 | Top Dawg Tavern: David Grunstra is a very popular local musician, singer/songwriter and guitarist who plays Blues, Alt Country, Classic Rock and more! He will be playing on the patio from 7-10PM.

Thursday, April 30th

Friday, May 1st

• Nexton Nights 🌠 | Nexton Square: think live music, great food, family friendly fun, and all your favorite spots right in Nexton Square! This event runs from 5-8PM, and will be headlined by Forty Mile Detour.

• Parents Night Out ⛹ | We Rock The Spectrum: drop the kiddos off with We Rock The Spectrum in Summerville for a night full of fun, friends, and pizza while you enjoy a few hours to yourself! This event runs from 6-9PM and the cost is $45 for the first child and $35 for any additional siblings.

Live Music 🎸:

• Keith Bruce | Bolts & Brews Beer Garden: longtime Charleston musician Keith Bruce has a strong reputation as a stand-in guy for cranking out fiery electric guitar solos with various bar bands, but his solo acoustic gigs are much more laid back. He will be playing in the garden from 4:30-7:30PM.

• Johnny Cox Jr. | Wine & Tapas Bar: Johnny plays a little bit of everything from classic rock, old and new country, to some modern hits. He will be playing from 7-10PM.

• Susan Curry | Montreux Bar and Grill: Susan’s music revolves mainly around bluegrass and Americana tunes. She will be playing on the front stage starting at 2PM.

• Joshua Jarman | Montreux Bar and Grill: Joshua is known for his sweet and smooth vocals accompanying rhythmic, percussive guitar fingerstyle and unique lyric writing. He will be playing on the patio starting at 6PM.

Saturday, May 2nd

• Summerville MayFest 2 🎉 | Carnes Crossroads: pack up the kids, the grandparents, and your best neighbor, and meet the Parents Partnership at Carnes Crossroads for an unforgettable afternoon of music, games, and good times! From 1-5PM, there will be food trucks, live music, local vendors, face painting, free games, a silent auction, raffle prizes and more!

• Playground Ribbon Cutting ✂️ | Doty Park: the official grand opening celebration for the Doty Park Playground will run from 10AM-12PM. This event will feature snow cones, face painting, yard games, and crafts while getting to play on the new playground made for everyone to enjoy!

• Berkeley County Farmers & Artisans Market Grand Opening 🌾 | Freedom Church (Moncks Corner): all your favorite vendors that you know and love, plus plenty of new ones will be ready to greet you at the grand opening from 9AM-2PM! This event is free, open to the public, family friendly and pet friendly, with plenty of onsite parking and also within walking distance to many nearby residents.

• Lowcountry 2nd Annual Heavy Equipment Rodeo 🚜 | Ladson Fair Grounds & Exchange Park: be a part of the second annual Lowcountry Heavy Equipment Rodeo, which will run from 11AM-4PM. General admission tickets are $10 and 100% of proceeds will benefit the Lowcountry Autism Foundation.

Restaurant Spotlight

The Nexton dining scene keeps adding new names, and the latest arrival is Dog and Duck. The longtime Lowcountry pub group has opened its newest location at 430 Cross Park Lane, bringing its familiar formula of casual food, cold drinks, and neighborhood hangout energy to one of the fastest-growing parts of Summerville.

For anyone who has visited one of the older Dog & Ducks, the menu will feel comfortably familiar. Think burgers, hot dogs, tacos, wraps, sandwiches, salads, and the kind of appetizers built for sharing with a table. Their menu highlights pub staples like nachos, wings, baskets, and sandwiches, so this is the kind of place where everyone can find something without a long debate.

They’re also leaning into the social side of the business with daily happy hour, rotating specials, bingo nights, brunch-style drink deals, and live events across their locations. That gives it a little more staying power than a standard chain-style sports bar.

In a part of town adding rooftops, steak houses, and polished concepts, Dog and Duck adds something useful: a relaxed neighborhood pub where fries, wings, beer, and an easy meal still do the heavy lifting. For Nexton residents, that may be exactly what was missing.
